If I hear one more “concerned” comment about the Asian bird flu “epidemic” I think I’m going to be sick. In protest of the media hype, I will now begin an all-poultry diet. Seriously, people, it’s called the “bird flu” for a reason—it kills
birds, not people! Worldwide, only 60 people have
ever died of this—and those cases were from living with poultry, not eating it.

How come nobody ever leaves comments on your blog? Must have something to do with the Jorn Barger theory.
I think that the fear of the bird flu stems from the ability of viral strains to mutate or evolve. Could the bird flu virus evolve and find a way around/through the current human resistance to this particular strain? Not likely, but science/research suggests that it is possible. Besides, the media's ability to create a panic story is rooted in money. More viewers/circulation equals higher ad revenue/ratings.
Whaddya think?
Oh, I realize the potential of a mutated virus, but that hasn't happened yet. It certainly is and should be on minds of public health officials, but what good does it do to worry the general public with the day in, day out coverage of a hypothetical threat?
